‘Smooth Ride for Dimapur’ launched

‘Smooth Ride for Dimapur’, an initiative of Act of Kindness, in collaboration with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) was launched by Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Limasunep Jamir, IPS, during a brief function d at Holy Cross, Dimapur, junction, Friday.
In his speech, Jamir said good roads were an essential need for a city or town, and that there were numerous shortcomings of a city when there was no good road.  
Encouraging the youths to take initiatives alongside government agencies, the commissioner said, “instead of blaming various departments or implementing agencies, voluntary approach through small initiatives are very important and effective.”
Admitting that overnight change and tremendous development may not happen, Jamir said small initiative taken now would ultimately bring about a bigger change. Jamir cited that potholes were also one reason for accidents and traffic in Dimapur.
The commissioner hoped that the initiative “Smooth Ride for Dimapur” taken up as a collaborative work would ease and improve traffic concerns which had become a main culprit in accident cases.
Jamir assured assistance in the project in the form of manpower and logistic supports from the Police department whenever required.
Earlier, the inaugural was chaired by Adrian Mahung, Dimapur Ao Baptist Church Pastor Rev Maong Lemtur pronounced the invocation, Lenti Aier gave the keynote address and L.G. Solomon Rongmei proposed the vote of thanks, Thahekhu Baptist church youth director, Boqhito Chishi pronounced the benediction and DMC engineer Badal Chandra Bhadro gave a briefing on how the project would be undertaken.
It may be mentioned here that “Smooth Ride for Dimapur” was initiated by Act of Kindness in the year 2015, wherein the group filled up some of the worst potholes in and around Dimapur city.
The group depended solely on donations from the group members and well wishers to carry out the works which later caught the attention and support of various youth organizations and governmental agencies. The current project is greatly supported by DMC under the guidance of the new appointed administrator, Moa Sangtam.
