
The 4th general conference of the Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) was held at Chessore village, Tuensang with TR Zeliang, chairman DAN & advisor Finance as the chief guest and C. Kipili Sangtam, minister of Power, as the guest of honour.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Zeliang called upon the six tribes of Eastern Nagaland to come together and unite for a brighter future. “Unity and Integrity of the people is crucial and the six tribes of Eastern Nagaland must take positive decision for themselves instead of accepting feedings from outside the area, the end result of which could prove fatal in the near future,” he stated.
He also touched upon on empowerment of Naga women, saying: “Naga women must be empowered economically, socially, educationally and politically.” While calling upon womenfolk to unite and march towards a future based on equality, Zeliang said the voice of the youth, women and men are all equally important and no particular section must be discriminated on the basis of their gender.
He added that the ‘the challenges ahead of us are many but it can be overcome with better understanding and proper consultations.’
Earlier on Tuesday, Zeliang inaugurated two roads under PMGSY at Huker village, Tuensang in the presence of R. Tohanba, parliamentary secretary of Municipal Affairs and the public of Tuensang District.
The two roads, one from Huker to Aiponger measuring 10 kms and the other from Kephore to Shiponger measuring 11 kms, were constructed under PMGSY Phase-8 and completed in 2014.
In the formal programme held at Huker Baptist Church, Zeliang called upon the gathering to unite and cooperate with the government to uplift the economy of the people. “The support and cooperation of the general public is vital for uplifting the economy of the people because MLAs alone cannot bring in complete development,” he stated.
While commenting on the upcoming road from Dimapur to Pangsha via Wokha, Zunheboto, Aghunato, Samator and Noklak which has been approved and DPR being prepared by NHIDCL, Zeliang said that the implementation of the road ‘could boost the economy of the people in the 3 districts beside the Trade Centre at Pangsha, Indo-Myanmar border and other potential areas.’
In this regard, the former chief minister called upon the people of the State to render their cooperation for the success of the survey and preparation of DPR at the present stage.
On the Indo-Naga peace dialogue, Zeliang urged the people to seek the help of the Almighty God for ushering in a new era of permanent peace among the Nagas. “We need permanent peace and I urge you all to pray for it,” he said.
During the two-day tour touching the 4 districts of Wokha, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Tuensang, Zeliang was accompanied by C. Kipili Sangtam, minister of Power, R. Tohangpa, parliamentary secretary of Municipal Affairs and Imtikumzuk, parliamentary secretary of IPR and others.
