World Cancer Day was observed in Mon on May 15 at the council hall under the theme, “We can, I can”.
Resource person, senior medical officer District Hospital Mon, Dr. Wungyong Konyak, in his powerpoint expounded on the present cancer statistics in India, early warning signals, different types of cancers and its causes, hazards of tobacco. He also spoke on tobacco scenario of Nagaland and benefits of quitting tobacco from 20 minutes to 10 years which was very useful for every tobacco users to know.
Dr Wungyong said that most cancers could be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle and to make a pledge and take action.
District Health Society Mon, also held its quarterly review meeting with the chairman, deputy commissioner, Mon, W. Honje Konyak, chaired by Dr Limatula Aier, DVBO, NVBDCP.
Speaking at the meeting, the chairman shared his thoughts saying that the citizens working in a medical department was as equal as citizens working in the church. He said church workers work for the spiritual dimension and the medical department for the real. He added that the staff may either be appointed by choice, by chance or by some other way but they were in it with “big extra responsibility” of serving people and God.
District Programme Officers of Vector Borne Disease, RNTCP and RCH&UIP informed on their upcoming programmes and briefed on the activities to be taken up.
