With all other parties such as– NPP, LJP (RV), RPI (A), JD(U) and Independents– offering to support the NDPP-BJP coalition government and with NCP having seven members and NPF with two members also likely to follow suit, Nagaland appears headed towards having its third opposition-less government, as reported earlier by Nagaland Post on March 4.
The first opposition-less government was formed when Congress joined the DAN-III in 2015 then followed by NPF joining the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government for the second opposition-less government (UDA in September 2021).
All these opposition-less governments were justified on the plea of bring all section together for Naga political solution.
Therefore, the most crucial question being raised is whether the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will use the occasion on Tuesday to finally make any announcement of a solution to the Naga political solution, which his government has been promising since 2015?
The other issue that also evinces interest is whether Modi will also announce the deal made with ENPO over a political package for Eastern Nagaland?
All political parties appear to be inclined to be part of the new government.
State NPP president Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema informed Nagaland Post that the NPP had already submitted their letter of support to the NDPP-BJP alliance partners.
Ahoto said, being part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), NPP was bound to extend unconditional support to the alliance. Two legislators of Lok Janshakti Party (RV)– Dr. Sukhato A Sema and Naiba Konyak- on Monday called on NDPP-BJP alliance leader Neiphiu Rio in Kohima and handed over their letter of support.
Earlier addressing the media in Dimapur, Union minister of state and president of RPI(A) Ramdas Athawale announced that the two RPI(A) MLAs will support the BJP-led NDPP alliance.
The lone JD (U) MLA Jwenga Seb had also expressed his willingness to join the next government if given an opportunity
As all parties are inclined to be part of the government, the third opposition-less government is in the offing.
The plea or justification for having opposition-less government is to bring all together in order to exert pressure on NPGs on one side and government of India on the other, to secure early solution to the Naga political issue.
However, both NDPP and BJP, with a clear majority of 37 seats in the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NDPP-25 and BJP-12), were yet to decide on whether or not they alliance partners are willing to accommodate the smaller parties in the government.
As reported earlier both NDPP and BJP have their respective members who won under tickets of other parties.
