Alleging of negligence by the government to repair the road, the two villages- Losami and Losatephe under Phek district voluntarily took up road repairing work between Losatephe village to Kabokere under Losami jurisdiction on August 18.
In a press statement, village council chairman of Losami, Zechete Mekrisuh claimed that the villages deployed three excavators, dumper and more than 500 volunteers took part in the road repair work without any assistance from the government and contractor.
The villages claimed that the road has been neglected by department as the work charge labourers were terminated in February 2021.
They claimed that the contract was awarded to M/S Naga construction under PMGSY scheme. But due to poor workmanship and with no proper drainage, the black topped road with 14km lasted only for few months after which no renovation or repainting work was carried out, which caused lot of hardship to commuters.
In view of the above, the two village councils have urged the department to intervene and appoint workcharge labourers at the earliest so that the public road was maintained.
