Visiting consultant at Zion Hospital, Dimapur, associate consultant, Radiation Oncology (Medanta Cancer Institute), Dr. Sorun A Shishak on September 15 addressed number of cases and held a “Health Talk on overview of role of radiation in oncology”, an initiative by Beyond Cancer, a cancer support group, Nagaland at its office premise.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, a significant portion of her discussion centered around the role of radiation in cancer treatment. Introducing “CyberKnife”, a state-of-the-art robotic system from Medanta, she explained its capability to target tumors precisely, offering hope to patients with inoperable tumors.

Dr. Sorun encouraged open patient-oncologist discussions, highlighting that understanding treatment options and their implications is vital for managing cancer effectively. She informed that treat advanced or metastatic cases, involving brain, liver, kidney, bones can be carried out. She said that radiation can also be used for non-cancerous conditions as in arteriovenous malformation, trigeminal neuralgia, pituitary adenoma, schwannomas for total body irradiation in relapsed leukemia cases.
