All India Bank Employees’ Association (ABIEA), the oldest and largest trade union of the bank employees in the country, at its central committee meeting held in Guwahati from September 9-11, 2023, has unanimously decided to launch a series of agitation programmes throughout the country to press for demands.
In a press release, Assam Provisional Bank Employee’s Association (APBEA) Nagaland area committee secretary Sabooj Sharma informed that the demands include adequate recruitments in banks and stop outsourcing of jobs.
The association stated that there were thousands of posts, mainly clerical and sub staff cadre, lying vacant in all banks. However, the management of banks were not filling up those posts.
As a result, the association said the customer services were adversely affected. It also stated that the existing employees were over burdened with extra workload. The association stated that the educated unemployed of the country were being denied from their legitimate right to get employment in banks.
Further, the association expressed opposition to the outsourcing of jobs in banks, which it said was threatening the securities of public money in banks and outsourced employees were also exploited.
In the light of the above, AIBEA has chalked out four-month long agitation programmes such as demonstration dharna, bank-wise all India strike, different region-wise strike.
It stated that the strike in north east region would take place on January 6, 2024 which would culminate with two-day continuous Bank Strike on January 19 and 20, 2024. APBEA Nagaland unit has, therefore, called upon all bank customers, general public and unemployed youth to support the bank employees’ agitation programmes.
