Defending champion Visoneilie Khoubve from Calhake Khel-I (CK-I) won the Zhadima Village Youth & Sports Organisation (ZVYSO) Naga Wrestling Championship held at Zhadima Sports Complex on Wednesday. The 20-year-old wrestler who is also the defending champion of the Northern Angami Youth & Sports Association-C (NAYSA-C) received a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.
While Medophretuo Khoubve (CK-I) secured the second position, receiving a cash amount of Rs. 15,000/-; Seyiekhrietuo (Kimho Khel-I) and Petoulhoulie Sorünuo (Kimho Khel-II) secured the third and fourth position respectively, each receiving a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
A total of 36 wrestlers from eight Khels took part in the wrestling championship during the first day of the three-day sports event.
The wrestling final ceremony was graced by president of the Nagaland Football Coaches Association (NFCA) and director of coaches, Nagaland Football Association (NFA), Roko Angami, as the special guest.
The ceremony was chaired by ZVYSO vice president Neikhrietuo Albert Loucü, a special number by Mhasizolie Metsieo and Neingusalie Khoubve as the compere.
ZVYSO advisor Vizosielie Khoubve was the wrestling chief judge.
Earlier, the inaugural ceremony was graced by special assistant to CM, Vibeilietuo Kets, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Kets pointed out how Zhadima village is witnessing a gradual rise of progressive farmers. He shared the state government’s interest to help farmers through various agri and allied schemes.
As wrestlers and athletes of other sports discipline geared up for the annual sports, Kets encouraged aspiring sportspersons to be dedicated and excel in their discipline. He also hoped that young players would further go on to represent the village, district, state and even at the international platforms.
The annual sports meet began with a flamboyant march-in by the contingents followed by a prayer by Priest in charge of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Rev. Fr Joyal. Zhadima Village Council (ZVC) chairman Neilalhoulie Soliezuo delivered greetings, president’s address by ZVYSO president Kekhriesilie Khoubve, special number by Asibei-ü Chüpuo, elderly blessings by head GB Kedilezo M Keditsu, and oath taking by ZVYSO wrestling secretary Vilavor Loucü. The ceremony was chaired by ZVYSO secretary judicial matters, Keziengulie Alban Sorünuo.
