A three-day 36th general conference of Lotha Catholic Youth Association (LCYA) culminated Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lakhuti. A press release by LCYA stated that retired principal, Dr. Stephen Lotha, and commissioner, motor vehicles department, Elias T Lotha were the guest speakers on the final day.
Extending greetings to the congregation, Dr. Stephen emphasised the significance of the Holy Eucharist in life and urged the youth to value it and refrain from pride. Highlighting the importance of the Bible in youth life, he encouraged the youth to remember and thank God in all aspects of life. He also stressed on the need to remember God from the beginning, emphasizing that God would guide those who do so.
Regarding academics, Dr. Stephen reminded that mere memorization was insufficient and underscored the importance of understanding and appreciating the true value of education.
In his address, Elias focused on Catholic Social Teachings (CST) and urged the congregation to uphold human dignity, emphasizing that all men are created in God’s image.
Speaking on the abusive use of mobile phones, he considered it a “dangerous menace in youth life”, and encouraged living an exemplary Christian life.
Stressing that one’s actions, thoughts, and words should praise God and not displease Him, he encouraged the gathering to practice love and humility, being helpful to others, and supporting the needy and destitute.
The program concluded with a Holy Mass celebration led by director, Lotha Catholic Youth Association, Rev. Fr. Philip Yanpvuthung.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Philip emphasised the importance of work culture and the dignity of labour. He encouraged youths to expose their hidden talents with determination, walking with God, and giving priority to Him for success.
Rev. Fr. Philip also highlighted the issue of unemployment, stating that government jobs are not sufficient for all educated unemployed youths. He urged the youths to focus on their goals with determination and explore alternative opportunities.
During the first session, Senjano Ezung presented a special song, and the program was led by president, Lakhuti CYA, Zuchamo Louis Humtsoe; benediction was invoked by Catechist, Mekokla, M. James Yanthan.
