NSCN-K (Yung Aung) has vehemently condemned the government of India’s decision to construct fencing along the “imposed boundary in Naga region.” Terming it an attempt to legitimize “illegal occupation of the Naga country,” the group expressed resentment, citing concerns about the physical division of Nagas under the pretext of security and drug control.
The group underscored that such actions not only undermine the ongoing struggle for sovereignty among the Nagas, but also accused India of attempting to deceive the international community with its “divisive policies and alleged illegal occupation in the Naga country and the entire Wesea region.”
NSCN (YA) said that despite home minister Amit Shah’s “feverish imagination”, Nagas on both sides of the imposed border would not stand by and allow the separation fence to violate their rights and jeopardize their future. It warned that the fence would only provoke further complications in the already sensitive Naga issue.
NSCN (YA) said it had in the past condemned India’s hostile separation policy to divide Nagas based on the present border. “As much as we opposed India and Myanmar’s illegal occupation of our country, we also opposed all of their discriminatory laws and divisive policies,” it stated. The group said that Nagas have never asked for the so-called Free Movement Regime (FMR), asserting that such laws which can be easily implemented or scrapped at will is meaningless for Nagas.
NSCN (YA) said Nagas were free since ancient time and have not bowed down to anybody nor sought permission from anyone to travel within the country. “And having the sovereign right, our people will not allow anyone to dictate their ability to commute freely,” it said.
It said that today the free movement has been restricted to the core by “hundreds of Indian checkpoints and obstacles spread throughout the Naga country”. This level of repression has cause deep trauma and insecurity among the people for the last many decades it said, adding that “every action taken by India crosses the redline and any of this action will not go unchallenged.”
Meanwhile, the group has expressed gratitude to Nagas across the country for their united voice against the alleged illegal policy, stating that they were encouraged and motivated by the strong condemnation of this “symbol of occupation”.
