A six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) training programme on “value addition and packaging of fruits and vegetables-Phase I” organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad at SAMETI, Medziphema culminated on March 9.
A press release by SAMETI, Medziphema informed that, at the inaugural programme, deputy project director SAMETI and nodal officer STRY, Tiajungla Longchar, gave an overview of STRY.
In her inaugural speech, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Medziphema, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, highlighted the importance of value addition in fruits and vegetables and its scope for entrepreneurial opportunities.
The training covered the topics of preparation of ginger candy, preparation of chilli pickle in oil, preparation of carambola (star fruit), preparation of king chilli pickle, preparation of turmeric powder, preparation of papaya tutti frutti and packaging, labelling and storage of processed products.
The resource persons for the training were assistant horticulture specialist and post-harvest technology in charge, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Dr. Moasosang Longkumer, and Tiajungla Longchar. A total of 15 participants were trained.
