Kohima, Mokokchung and Niuland District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meetings were held on March 15 at respective district headquarters.
Kohima: The Kohima DPDB meeting was held at the DPDB Hall, Kohima in the presence of advisor for school education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, and Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting deliberated on registration of various societies, with four out of seven societies proposed for registration being rejected.
Dr. Rhutso emphasised that a society must have a minimum of seven members, representing diverse tribal backgrounds, to ensure inclusivity and advocated for transparency and honesty in assisting marginalized communities.
During discussions on the screening process for society registration, Dr. Yhome proposed the establishment of specific guidelines and criteria to streamline the registration process.
He stressed the responsible utilization of loans, highlighting the need for repayments. He suggested carbon incentivizing villages with significant forest cover and promoting public awareness through documentary productions.
A PowerPoint presentation by the regional transport officer, Kohima, shed light on vehicle licensing and registration. It was revealed that 3580 learners’ licenses and 2747 drivers’ licenses were issued in the current fiscal year. The members deliberated on enhancing road safety awareness and simplifying the registration procedures to make them more user-friendly.
The divisional forest officer, Kohima, provided insights into the Nagaland Forest Management Project, its implementation process, and the livelihood activities of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Initiatives such as the National Clean Air Program and the establishment of vertical gardens in Kohima were discussed in the meeting.
Mokokchung: The Mokokchung DPDB meeting held at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mokokchung Office was chaired by Mokokchung DC and DPDB vice chairman, Thsuvisie Phoji.
According to a DIPR report, in a presentation, the department of Public Works Department (PWD-R&B) highlighted several challenges, particularly regarding stone quarries on the roadside, which resulted in road damage and landslides.
The department also highlighted issues such as logging and stacking of firewood, unplanned construction of link roads, and haphazard developments along the roadside, causing illegal occupation of spaces.
In this regard, the DC emphasised the need for pictorial evidence with exact locations to facilitate prompt action and problem resolution. Phoji said an order would be issued in the coming days to prohibit such activities.
Presenting an overview of their ongoing and upcoming projects, the department of urban development informed the attendees about the progress of the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi) scheme, which provides affordable working capital loans to street vendors. The department said a total of 112 street vendors have benefited from the scheme thus far. The board approved the Chuchuyimlang HiEERA project proposal to be forwarded to the relevant department for necessary action.
The meeting concluded with the DC instructing all Heads of Departments (HODs) and government employees to remain at their designated posts during the upcoming election period. He said absenteeism without proper leave from DC office would not be tolerated.
Niuland: The Niuland DPDB meeting was held under the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and vice chairman, DPDB Niuland, Sara S. Jamir, at the Conference Hall of DC Niuland Office.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting deliberated on establishment of a separate DRDA Office with the posting of project director for Niuland district, establishment of the treasury office, upgrade of branch post office and establishment of an additional SBI Bank at Old Showuba and approved and forwarded to the concerned department for necessary action.
The meeting reaffirmed the previous recommendation for urgent establishment of a police outpost at Khaghaboto (grey area) where murder/ murder related cases are being reported almost every year.
The board also forwarded to the government to establish 12 different departments which were yet to be established in the district.
The DC also requested all the district officers to be present in the station and apply for station leave in case the officer was leaving the station. At the meeting, officials from the Food and Civil Supplies department presented departmental activities through a PowerPoint.
