National Health Mission (NHM) Nagaland, mission director, Dr. Akuo Sorhie, said the Reproductive Maternal Neonate Child Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) was the backbone of the NHM and the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoH&FW) and called for improving the critical key performance indicators, finding the gaps and addressing them.
A press release by NHM Nagaland informed that Dr. Sorhie was speaking at the two-day state-level review cum workshop RMNCAH+N Tuesday at IDSP Hall, Directorate of H&FW, Nagaland.
While addressing the district representatives present at the workshop, the mission director said RMNCAH+N, since its inception, has been the backbone of NHM and the department. She said the state’s performance indicators have seen a positive upward trend in National Family Health survey (NFHS)- 4 and 5 because of the sincerity and the dedication of the District Program Officers and their district program management staff.
However, Dr. Sorhie reminded the gathering that the department still has a lot to do to improve its critical key performance indicators, like registration of 1st ANC, 4 ANC, institutional delivery, full immunisation etc., which needs intervention in finding out the gaps and addressing them.
Dr. Sorhie said the Ministry of H&FW government of India came up with the RMNCAH+N in order to have this holistic approach, and to ensure optimal health care for mother and child. She then urged the district program officers to assure that all these activities are accorded with equal importance.
The mission director expressed the hope that the two-day workshop would give an understanding of the status of the department’s key performance indicators under NHM.
She hoped that the acquired knowledge would enable the department to decide all the critical actions for the way forward, understand the gaps and challenges faced and bring about ways to bridge the gaps.
Dr. Sorhie encouraged the officers present to rededicate themselves and work with genuine vigour and give their best shot at achieving the targets.
Earlier, welcoming the district RCH/ immunisation officers and district program managers (NHM), state program officer, RMNCAH+N, Dr. Khelito Zhimomi, said that the review was about bringing forward the district level problems, working on the best solution, and taking the program forward. She expressed hope that the district would learn from one another the best practices. A presentation on the key performance indicator of Nagaland state was given by Dr. Longri Kichu followed by the district level performance presentation.
