NE women fest concludes

The second day event of North East Women Festival on peace and unity was held Friday at Urban Haat, Dimapur. A seminar was conducted with deputy director, Horticulture Nagaland C.Kikhi and chairperson, North East Network Monisha Behal as resource persons. They spoke on the “Relevance of Millennium Development Goals” and “Empowerment of Women through interaction at the microlevel” respectively.
Speaking on the relevance of Millennium Development Goals or MDG, C.Kikhi emphasized that MDG could not be talked about without peace and unity which was a prerequisite for overall development millennium development goals she said were formed to meet development challenges like poverty, unequal education opportunities, gender inequality, HIV and AIDS etc.
The resource person also spoke about MDG, taking into context the present Naga society and stressed on attaining the goals of MDG. Deputy director, Horticulture Nagaland C. Kikhi further stressed on participation of women in political areas which was still considered a male domain because social construction in India was defined for men and women. Emphasizing on the need for a women representative in the legislative assembly, she said that “Men are deciding the fate of women without women. They are aware that women should be there, but they are gender blind”.
Chairperson, North East Network Monisha Behal speaking on “Empowerment of Women through interaction at the microlevel” talked about some of the burning issues and ways to solve it and advised the women to resolve inter district barriers and work collectively as a team. She educated the women on the RTI act and urged them to involve themselves more in the decision making level.
Organised by Naga Women Hoho Dimapur in collaboration with NEZCC, the concluding programme was attended by few district women leaders including organizing committee.
Earlier in the programme, the welcome address was delivered by, president Naga Women Hoho Hukheli T. Wotsa, a mass prayer was held and the vote of thanks was proposed by the vice president, Naga Women Hoho, Yanpolumi after which a cultural show brought the festival to a close.
