Nicky graces ZOAN general session

Zeliang Officers’ Association Nagaland (ZOAN) held its second general session Saturday here at Peren Town Hall with chairman, Khadi & Village Industries Board, Nagaland, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire as the chief guest of the inaugural session.
The chief guest in his address touched on varied topics of concern to the officers and community, and said the first and foremost obligation of a government servant was to serve the people of the district or area where the officer was posted.
He said absenteeism and truancy by government servants was a crime and should be discouraged at all levels. Nicky also said government employees should not get too involved in politics as sometimes it might lead to disastrous consequences.
Dwelling on the abundance of natural resources in Peren district, the MLA however regretted that Nagas have grown too accustomed to illegal migrants working for them. He said the system of employing others and sharing the produce should be discouraged as slowly the illegal migrants were making their roots and living off the land.
Nicky urged the ZOAN members to spread awareness about the dignity of labour and discourage dependency on others.
He said it was high time that the community take up innovative and modern ways of farming to improve the economic standard of the people. The KVIB chairman further called upon ZOAN to organize seminars, capacity building programmes and career counseling, especially for the students and youth, in order to enable them to make a head start in life.
