In a span of just three to four hours, two tragic accidents along NH-29 in 3rd Mile area, Chümoukedima claimed the lives of three youth. The first accident took place around 9 pm on Wednesday, while the other around 12:30 am on Thursday.
According to police sources, 19-year-old Santabir Gurung, who was riding a scooty, tragically lost his life in an accident opposite ARTC&S, 3rd Mile area. When the police arrived at the scene, Gurung, a resident of Aoyimti village, had already succumbed to his injuries. Two other individuals, riding as pillion passengers, sustained minor injuries. After formalities were completed, Gurung’s body was handed over to his family for the last rites.
In the second incident, two persons died on the spot when a red Hyundai Venue collided head-on with the rear of a sand-laden truck while both vehicles were heading towards Chümoukedima.
Police sources said that the car was driven by Letgoumang Lenthang (22), alias Johnny, of Phaipijang village and co-passenger identified as Yangle Sangtam (21), of Lungwiram village. Sources said the impact was so severe that almost half of the vehicle was wedged beneath the heavy truck, leaving the car mangled beyond repair.
Despite efforts by passersby to rush them to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), both victims were declared dead on arrival.
Police said the bodies were handed over to their families, and that a preliminary investigation was currently underway. Both the deceased were members of the Photography Club Dimapur (PCD).
In a condolence message, PCD expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing away of its members. PCD stated that their contribution to the club could not be measured in words, describing them as hardworking, enterprising, and future stars in the making. “With their passing we are left with great emptiness and regret.
However, their life and contribution towards the club will never be forgotten, and their memories will stay with us forever,” the message read.
PCD also expressed condolence to the families of the deceased, their friends, and loved ones during this difficult time, and prayed that they find strength and comfort in the love and support that surrounded them.
