Retriever, a transformative initiative launched in 1999 to promote dignity, discipline, and the value of honest labor, celebrated its 25th anniversary at Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen (CBLT) Conference Hall in Tuensang on November 27.
The celebration was graced by deputy commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, as the special guest. According to Media Convenor, Jubilee Committee, delivering keynote address, Lima Onen Chang, MLA and founder of Retriever, reflected on its genesis and the challenges faced during its inception. He also shared how the organization, born out of the need to address youth unemployment and social instability, evolved from a small group of 15 individuals into a symbol of hope and empowerment in Tuensang.
In his address, Executive Secretary of CBLT, Rev. Achu, paid homage to those departed members, while other dignitaries, including, president, CKS, NY Choba, former TTC chairman, L Tochi, and president, Tuensang Town Chambers of Commerce, Ebesola, shared their personal experiences on being part of this transformative journey.
A special song was sung by former Retriever members, S Yonachoba and T chaang.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by president of Retriever, Tenam, followed by a mass benediction and a grand jubilee feast.
During the event, two initiatives, “Sweat Fund” and “Power of Rs. 1”, were launched by secretary, ECS, Rev Dr Chingmak Chang. Earlier, the celebration, chaired by A Chuba, the first chairman of Retriever, began with an invocation by secretary of Finance and Property, CBLT, Haku Chang.
It may be recalled that originally known as “Local Motia,” Retriever started as a collective effort to provide unemployed youth with opportunities for self reliance. Its founding philosophy, rooted in the dignity of labor and teamwork, encouraged members to engage in various unskilled jobs such as loading and transporting goods.
Over the years, Retriever expanded its mission, equipping its members with skills that led many into government services, skilled professions, and entrepreneurship.
