Venuzo Dawhuo crowned Hornbill Wrestling Champion

Venuzo Dawhuo from Chakhesang tribe emerged as the winner of the 17th Hornbill International Naga Wrestling Championship 2024, held at Chiechama village ground on December 6.


In the final bout, Venuzo defeated Venu Vadeo, also from Chakhesang tribe to clinch the title and had earlier defeated Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü from Angami tribe in the semi-final bout while Venu defeated Vemele Thingo from Chakhesang tribe in the semis and went to the final.


27 year old Dawhuo, son of Nezohü Dawhuo, is a native of Thenyizu village, weighs 105 Kgs and stands at a height of 5.10 ft. Dawhuo has to his credit, two coveted Nagaland Wrestling Championship titles, three Open Nagaland Wrestling Championships and is also the winner of Chokri Area Wrestling Association for 5 consecutive times in a row.


In the 90 Kg & below category Seyiejalie Gwirie from Angami tribe emerged as the champion while Thuputha Hesuh from Chakhesang tribe was placed in the runner up position.


The other two semi-finalists were Neikerhezo Zhünyü & Vevokho Ruho.
In the 75 Kg & below category Keneiselie Khawakhrie emerged as the champion while Rokuokehie Khawakhrie was placed in the runner up position. The other two semi-finalists were Külüvezo Soho & Nlumrai. A total of 50 wrestlers including 40 men and 10 women took part in the championship.
