7th Winter Carnival -cum- Orchid festival kicks off in Peren

DC Peren, Hiazu Meru lighting the bonfire at the inaugural programme of the 7th Edition of Winter Carnival cum Orchid Festival held at Carnival village, Tepuiki River, Peren

The 7th edition of the Winter Carnival cum Orchid Festival commenced at the Carnival Village, Tepuiki River, Peren, on December 9, organized by Progressive Peren (P2), the event will run until December 12.


In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Hiazu Meru, expressed his delight at the strong sense of unity among the residents of Peren town. He lauded the efforts of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Peren and members of Progressive Peren for successfully bringing the community together.

Meru emphasized that tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries and expressed hope that Peren Town would soon feature prominently on Nagaland’s tourist map. He urged the people of Peren to collaborate with the District Administration to elevate the district to new heights.


The event also saw the presence of Retd. Commissioner Secretary Khrienuo C. Metha, as an honored guest. Following the inaugural speeches, DC Hiazu Meru officially opened the Winter Carnival by lighting the carnival lighting, while Khrienuo C. Metha inaugurated the Orchid Festival.


The first day of the event featured a variety of competitive activities, including ward-wise tug of war, strongman contests, a snail-eating competition, and an orchid competition, which were well received by the attendees.


The inaugural program, hosted by Progressive Peren Director Ngautube R. Champak, began with a blessing prayer led by Fr. Thomas, Parish Priest of St. Paul Church, Peren Town. The program also included a keynote address by Keyirangding Hegui, ADC Peren, and a special melody performance by Kewizin Domta. (DIPR)
