Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has supported the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD)’s appeal to the responsible authority to start plying all day and night buses from the designated Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) as completion of the road over bridge would miss the ongoing festive season.
DAYO through its media cell said it has been more than two decades that the ISBT was inaugurated within the vicinity of the city. The youth body said that ISBT was constructed in a 7.50 acres site with the terminus having the capacity of handling more than 200 buses and funded by NEC.
However, DAYO expressed regret that the infrastructure has never been fully utilised and “pathetically” only a few of the Nagaland State Transport (NST) buses operate from the terminus.
It stated that successive district administration over the years have issued “half-hearted directives and feeble reminders” for plying from the terminus to the private bus operators, but have fallen on deaf ears.
Instead of becoming a buzzing transport hub, DAYO said ISBT was nearly becoming a deserted destination. DAYO maintained the failure of not optimally utilising the government sanctioned infrastructure could be one of the reasons why many of the central govt sanctioned projects meant for Dimapur was transferred to other districts in recent memory.
Further, DAYO stated that the recent black topping of half kilometer road connecting the ISBT to the four-lane “should now eliminate any further excuse used by vested interest.”
DAYO has affirmed to extend all possible support to ensure that the stand of NCD was heeded by the district administration and the police in order to tackle immediate logistical challenges.
