Chairperson State Women Commission, Sano Vamuzo has called for safeguarding and preserving rich cultural heritage and the age-old virtues and values of Nagas which was disappearing in the fast changing world.
She maintained that culture not only involved only folk dances, music and traditional attires but also the reflection of the holistic approach of the people which include behaviour, character and mentality which needed to be protected and refined in very possible way.
She was speaking as chief guest at the cultural exchange programme held in Longwa village under Mon district on March 26.
Describing Konyaks as a people gifted with many real qualities Mrs Vamuzo said handicraft of Konyaks were superb intricacies and their customs, music and dance told the story of their characters with rooted wisdom. She also appealed to the Konyak community not to dispose off their antiques for a few cash but to treasure it for the younger generations to learn their past history from these resources.
According to an official bulletin, chief Angh of Longwa, joint director NEZCC, Talinokcha, general secretary ENPO, Toshi Wangtong, President Western Sumi Hoho, Hokya, and President Konyak Union, Khoiwang also spoke at the programme. Four cultural troupes from Nagaland two each from Eastern Konyak and Arunachal Pradesh participated at the function.
The chief guest was accompanied by her colleagues Abeni Kikon, S.T. Ellen Konyak and Secretary NSWC Lithrongla besides a host of NGOs and other high dignitaries. The programme was chaired by SDO (C) Phomching. Invocation and vote of thanks was proposed by Rev. Shaiba Konyak and Hoka ex-President Konyak Union respectively. The programme was organized by the Konyak Union and sponsored by NEZCC.
Meanwhile, seminar for women of Phomching Sub-Division was held on the theme ‘Towards a New Horizon’ on March 27 at Phomching Baptist Church organized by Nagaland Women Commission. In her keynote address to the participants, Chairperson NWC Sano Vamuzo urged the women folk to equip themselves with knowledge of their legal rights, health of women, child and education. “As the world is changing women should not be mere spectators to the demand that surrounds them and not neglecting the responsibilities at home.”, she said while affirming that Nagaland State Women Commission was passed in 2006 in the Assembly and since its inception the Commission has been striving to safeguard rights and privilege of women and to give succor the aggravated and neglected. She exhorted them to coordinate all women organization and March together for progress and development. She asked the women folk to strive for peace in Nagaland, “which is bleeding due to hatred, jealousy and suspicion.”
Resource persons, Imtijungshi Jamir, DWO Mon, Dr. T. Kikon CMO Mon and Vezokho Nyekha, Legal Consultant NWC, spoke on the topics- Importance of nutrition for women and children; Women and Health; Legal rights of Women, respectively.
Women leaders from various organizations, VDB Secretaries, VCC, DBs and GBs under Phomching Sub-Division attended the prorgamme.The inaugural programme was chaired by Ellen Konyak, member NWC, invocation by Pastor Phomching Baptist church and vote of thanks was pronounced by Abeni TCK member NWC.
