The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has expressed deep appreciation for the successful launch of the Nagaland Super League (NSL) on January 28, 2025, by chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
The party applauded the vision of the chief minister in creating opportunities for Nagaland’s football talents, and generate avenues for them to compete with the rest of the country and even globally.
In a communiqué, NDPP thanked the chief minister for his active involvement in making the NSL a reality and also congratulated the organizers—the Nagaland Football Association, Nagaland Olympic Association, and the Department of Youth Resources & Sports— for taking forward the dreams and aspirations of all football enthusiasts and talents in the state.
The party wished the organizers the very best as they strive to make NSL shine and grow to be at par with other football leagues, nationally and internationally. NDPP also acknowledged the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and its chairman, Abu Metha, for playing a crucial role in securing investors, corporate sponsorships, and support for sports and youth development.
This, the party said, reflected the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government’s commitment to holistic state development, including infrastructure, employment, and sports promotion. It said that NSL having been recognized as an official even of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), has the potential to become one of the biggest professional leagues in Northeast India.
The presence of AIFF president at the inauguration further reinforced the league’s credibility and growth prospects, it said. NDPP expressed confidence that NSL would attract top players and talent scouts from India and abroad in the coming years.
The party also congratulated all the clubs and franchises for their participation, stating that their involvement was crucial to NSL’s success. NDPP extended best wishes to the organizers, clubs, players, franchises, and sponsors, encouraging them to continue fostering football in Nagaland.
