Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) kicked off its 49th Annual Sports Week on February 17 at the college ground. On the inaugural day, various games like 100, 400, 800 and 1200 metre races, relay races and basketball were played.
Gracing the occasion as the special guest, founder of Step Academy, Worrin Muivah, acknowledged the college’s rich history and shared the importance of sports and extracurricular activities in shaping a student’s journey.
He also emphasized the value of leadership and drawing the connection between sports and the latter, Muivah cited research stating that “80% of senior executives in Fortune 500 companies, played sports during their college days, because sports teach resilience, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities essential for leadership”.
He encouraged all the participants to have fun and make the best out of the week-long sports event. He further stressed on the role of faith and encouraged students to put God first in their lives.
As a gesture of gratitude, Muivah announced a donation to the students’ association and offered two fully funded scholarships from Step Academy, an institute that equips students with career skills such as communication, CV writing, and interview preparation.
The special guest also kicked off the football marking the official start of the week-long sports festivities. The event, which showcased six competitive houses, commenced with a prayer by chaplain PCC, Dr. Vichükho Ngukha, followed by a welcome speech from assistant general secretary SUPCC, Cheimirin Valui.
