Nagaland Governor La Ganesan described Zeliangrong Heraka School at Tening as “an institution of hope and excellence” and said that the school, beyond academics, has “ignited a cultural renaissance.”

According to a DIPR report, the governor said this during the inaugural programme of newly constructed Jadonang Boys hostel of Zeliangrong Heraka School at Town Hall, Tening on March 20, 2025.

Ganesan said that he was honoured to stand before the gathering, inaugurating the newly constructed building of Jadonang Boys hostel of the Zeliangrong Heraka School.

Governor said the school was established in 1984 under the visionary initiative of Janjati Vikas Samiti Nagaland. He said the school started as a humble primary school with a noble mission to uplift the tribal community through education while preserving their rich cultural heritage.

Today, almost four decades after, he said Zeliangrong Heraka school has blossomed into a high school, illuminating the lives of students from 23 villages across Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur. “Its journey from a small classroom to a nationally recognized institution reflects the power of perseverance and collective effort,” Ganesan said.

He said that the school’s philosophy of fostering emotional and cultural integrity and bridging tribal and non-tribal communities through service resonates deeply with the nation’s ethos of “Unity in Diversity.”

By nurturing students to become socially conscious citizens with a national outlook, governor said the school was not just educating minds but uniting hearts.

He also appreciated the unwavering commitment of honorary teachers, many of whom were alumni of the school. “It is heartening to note that the Zeliangrong Heraka School has set unparalleled benchmarks in academic excellence,” Ganesan said.

He pointed that since 2006, its students have maintained a remarkable 100% pass rate in HSLC exams for 16 out of 19 years, including an unbroken 12 years streak from 2011 to 2022—a feat unmatched in Nagaland. “This consistency speaks volumes about the dedication of teachers and the management,” he added.

The governor expressed hope that the inauguration of Jadonang Boys hostel building would mark a transformative chapter and further inspire the students to strive for excellence.

Ganesan congratulated the Janjati Vikas Samiti, the school management, teachers, students and all stakeholders on this historic day. He said the new hostel inspire upcoming generations and the Zeliangrong Heraka School continue to shine as a lighthouse of knowledge, unity and progress.

Namri Nchang, MLA, who graced the occasion as a guest of honour, said he was overwhelmed and elevated to have heard the long successful history of the Zeliangrong Heraka School Tening, which was nearing its 50th year.

He said the school remains productive not only imparting educational values but also serves as a great centre in imparting social and cultural values by way of preserving the rich traditional legacy of the Zeliangrong Nagas.

Nchang also said the school has achieved cent percent passed percentage in HSLC exams for the past 14 years, which he described was really remarkable. He congratulated the School Managing Board (SMB) and its teaching faculty and all the students for achieving this feat.

Nchang appreciated the “wondrous and sagacious work” of late Rani Gaidinliu, who aspired to set up an institution, imparting educational values by uniting the Zeliangrong fraternity from three different states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. He also acknowledged all the pioneers who gave their every effort, which finally culminated in setting up of the school in the year 1984 “fulfilling the long cherished dreams of late Rani Ma.”

Nchang also congratulated Janjati Vikas Samiti Nagaland for their resilience and relentless efforts put forward by encouraging the lives of the young students.

Upon his arrival, the governor unveiled the Jadonang Boys hostel monolith in the presence of advisor for youth & sports resource, Keoshu Yimchunger; Namri Nchang, MLA, and district administration.
