9th edition of Frolic Cup kicks off in Medziphema

The 9th Edition of the Frolic Cup commenced on April 4 at local ground Medziphema, marking the start of an exciting football tournament organized by the Frolic Club. This year’s event has brought together 21 teams from across the region, all vying for the coveted trophy and showcasing emerging football talent.


The opening ceremony was graced by the special guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema, P. James Swu. With deep appreciation for the club’s longstanding contribution to the development of local football, Swu reflected on his 15-year association with the Frolic Club.

He highlighted the club’s role in fostering talent, noting the participation of 14 players from Medziphema in the recently concluded Nagaland Super League, as well as players from previous years who have gone on to make a name for themselves in prestigious tournaments like the I-League and the Subroto Cup.


Swu further emphasized the importance of discipline, stating that it is the foundation upon which success in football and life is built. He concluded the ceremony by reading a special message from Küzholüzo (Azo) Nienü, MLA and Leader of NPF, extending his best wishes for the tournament.

Opening Match:
The opening match was an exciting clash between Eimi Sporting Club and Longol FC. Eimi SC dominated the first half with a strong performance, taking a lead with a stunning long-range goal from Nikato and a clean tap-in by Longoulen.

However, Longol FC made a remarkable comeback in the second half, with Ngulminthang scoring one goal and Haochon netting two, leading to a 3-2 victory for Longol FC.


In the second match of the day, FC Simlai came out on top with a commanding 5-1 victory over Skylight FC. Despite Skylight FC taking the lead in the 15th minute through a goal by Pagin, FC Simlai quickly equalized through Ngulgouhad in the 35th minute.


The second half saw an explosive performance from FC Simlai, with Ngulgoulal (39’), Moses (51’), Henkhohao (56’), and Lamginmang (65’) all adding to the scoreboard to secure the win.
