The Nagaland Movies and Broadcasting Industry (NMBI) has expressed its appreciation for the State Government’s recent announcement of the “Nagaland Film Policy 2024,” aimed at boosting filmmaking activities in the region.
Ina press release, NMBI founder president Dr. Kashito Kiba stated that the policy is envisioned as a transformative initiative to nurture the local film industry, empowering young and talented Naga individuals, particularly educated unemployed youth, to engage in filmmaking, both in short and full-length formats. It seeks to facilitate self-sustainable revenue generation for the region through the development of the film industry.
The NMBI, officially registered under the Societies Registration Act in 2018 under the Home Department, has been at the forefront of advancing Nagaland’s film and broadcasting sector.
Its membership is comprised of professionals from diverse fields, including film directors, producers, actors, musicians, cinematographers, technical experts, and post-production editing teams. Together, these experts have been working tirelessly to establish a thriving film culture in the state.
In recent years, NMBI has organized pioneering events such as the First Nagaland Film Awards and Nagaland Short Film Awards, recognizing the achievements and contributions of local filmmakers. These initiatives have played a crucial role in encouraging creativity and fostering growth within the state’s film industry.
Looking ahead, NMBI has outlined an ambitious “Film Nagaland Project,” currently in the pipeline. The project aims to collaborate with government departments, including the Department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) and other film-related authorities, to realize a collective vision of strengthening and promoting filmmaking in Nagaland.
