Nagaland chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on Friday inaugurated the newly renovated Deputy Commissioner’s Bungalow in Mokokchung, in the presence of Nagaland Legislative Assembly members from Mokokchung district and other dignitaries.
A DIPR report informed that Dr. Rio in his inaugural address, highlighted the historical significance of the bungalow, tracing its roots back to the British occupation of the Naga Hills. He noted that his late father-in-law, an IFAS Officer, had served as Deputy Commissioner and resided in the bungalow from August 1969 to May 1970.
Dr. Rio also shared personal reflections, recalling stories from his wife’s childhood when she lived in the bungalow during the late 1960s. However, he expressed regret over the loss of valuable artefacts and culturally significant materials that were once part of the bungalow’s legacy. He urged the administration and officials to maintain proper records of the bungalow’s properties to preserve its historical essence.
Dr. Rio commended the contractors and engineers for completing the renovation ahead of schedule, ensuring the restoration of the landmark structure. The inauguration stands as a tribute to the rich history of Mokokchung, reaffirming efforts to protect and document significant heritage sites across the state.
