1day seminar for farmers at Liphayan

Department of Agriculture, Nagaland conducted a day long seminar for farmers on October 29 at Liphayan village in Wokha district under the theme, ‘a day with the farmers’. According to a press release issued by Ramo Lotha, District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Wokha, during the programme DAO Wokha appreciated the villagers for taking up constant cropping pattern by farmers and also invited the farming community to coordinate the department for adoption of improved technologies.
In the technical session, Megakhono Meyase, SMS (Horticultural crop); E Lireni Kikon, programme assistant (plant protection) both agricultural crop and horticultural; Jessica Dahtdong (Home science), processing of agricultural crops and Dr. Moa Akum Sangtam, SMS spoke on animal science. During the afternoon session, C Peter Yanthan, APPO also the chairman of the said programme spoke on ‘rodent pest management’ in relation with bamboo flowering, food habitats, behavioral activities and their management. All together 150 farmers attended the programme.
Further N Jacob Yanthan, SDO (store) agriculture department Dimapur and also trainer of the day spoke on the advantages of power machineries under farm mechanization programme and urged the farmers to avail the opportunity for adopting the methods and to go for agricultural activities with less expenditure. Also enlightened that power machineries were the latest items to be used in the field with less expenditure, less physical exercise and consume less time.
Power machineries with practical demonstration were also carries out in the field and other non power sector like paddy harvester, power tillers, water pump, winnowing fan and others. Meanwhile the village council chairman of Liphayan extended gratitude to the department for making them learn the technical know how in all related agricultural farming. The programme was blessed by Rev. Wosome Humtsoe, chaired by C. Peter Yanthan, APPO and vote of thanks was pronounced by Lotha, agricultural officer.
