Nyeiwang exhorts enpu Kohima

Minister for School Education, Nyiewang Konyak Thursday urged six Eastern Naga tribes to adopt the culture of ‘work hard and earn’. He said that they needed to do away with the mindset of ‘backwardness’ and move ahead with the advanced world by concentrating in the field of education, health, development and cleanliness.
Addressing the 7th session of Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union (ENPU) Kohima at DUDA guest house, Nyeiwang Konyak said that quality education was an important element for development. He urged the eastern Nagas to venture out and compete with other advanced tribes.
To acquire quality education, he also said that peace should prevail in the state. “Unless we are one, unless peace prevails, this hostility will continue”, he said. He further acknowledged the cabinet’s decision in relaxing the teachers’ recruitment policy.
Exhorting the gathering, Dako Phom, parliamentary secretary, Transport and Mechanical, called upon the people to give their efforts in removing backwardness. “How long will we remain under the flag of backwardness?” he questioned. To bring such change, he stated that the people should first change their habits, work culture, traditional ways of living. He expressed his hope that the eastern Nagas would not be tagged as backward but be marked under a prosperous slogan.
Parliamentary secretary, CAWD, T. Torechu appealed to the gathering to work together with a feeling of oneness. He urged them to advice and help one another for welfare of the whole society. To move forward like the other advanced tribes, he asserted that the people should discipline themselves and respect one another.
Highlights of the programme included reports of the outgoing office bearers, nominating report for new team, speech by the advisor, ENPO, and songs presented by the Phom BYE and Sangtam Union Kohima.
