A 36-hour bandh only for trucks carrying essential goods and petroleum products to Nagaland has been called effective from 05:00 hours of June 8 on NH 39( Numaligarh to Dimapur) including NH 36(Nagaon to Dimapur) by the Joint Action Committee of 12 organisations under the aegis of the All Assam Manipuri Students organization at Manja town, Karbi Anglong district.
According to a statement from Thingnam Chandrakumar, Convenor JAC, the bandh will be imposed through blockades on the two national highways and “shall be extended” if the ongoing road blockade on NH 39 and NH 53 by the All Naga Students Association of Manipur (ANSAM) and United Naga Council (UNC)Manipur, supported and intensified by the NSF against Manipur state continued.
The JAC convenor reiterated that the decision was a democratic process to remove hardship faced by the tribal and non-tribal people of Manipur due to the blockade by ANSAM and UNC and intensified by the NSF.
The JAC convenor said the decision to impose counter road blockade on Nagaland was decided on Sunday at Manja and also asked all truck owners not to ply on the two routes during the bandh. He warned that those doing so would bear the responsibility for any unwanted situation.
