All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) has appealed Minister for School Education Nyeiwang Konyak to declare September 8 as holiday for all schools of Nagaland instead of Kohima alone, in commemoration of Teachers’ Day.
“Teachers’ Day is for all the teachers of the state/country irrespective of the place where they are posted. As such declaring holiday only for one district will create a feeling of neglecting the teachers of other districts,” stated ANSTA president P Vashum in a press release.
The association also expressed unhappiness over holding of municipal council election on Teachers’ Day.
“Teachers’ Day is a national day and it is celebrated on 5th September every year all over the country, so the Association feel that holding election on such a great day is a disrespect to the Teachers’ Day of the country and an insult to the teachers,” ANSTA added.
