Combined Annual Training Camp of 447 NCC boy and girl cadets of Nagaland conducted at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima by Lt Col M. V. Chaudhari as Camp Commandant, concluded on Friday last.
During the short duration of 10 days the Cadets were exposed to ‘Regimented way of life’ wherein military training including handling and firing of weapons, Field Craft, Battle Craft and Map Reading were taught to the Cadets.
In addition, defence services work ethos, characterised by hard work, sincerity of purpose, honesty, selfless service, dignity of labour, secular outlook, comradeship and spirit of adventure and sportsmanship was inculcated. Lectures were conducted on ‘AIDS and its prevention’ by representatives of Bethesda- an NGO from Dimapur, Value Education and Meditation by Brahma Kumari Jayanti and Pranic Healing by Lt Col M V Chaudhari the Camp Commandant.
In the tightly packed schedule wherein cadets hailing from six districts of Nagaland viz. Kiphire, Phek, Wokha, Kohima, Dimapur and Peren were kept on their toes since 6 o’clock in the morning till 9.30 in the evening. Typically their day started with physical training at 6 am followed by various training activities during the day. Evening was reserved for games and sports followed by presentation of variety entertainment programme and tribal songs and dances by cadets of various tribes.
Inspite of the hectic schedule the cadets were able to achieve all aims set for the Camp to include firing by all cadets, training for and successful conduct of ‘A’ Certificate examination, Tree Plantation and Blood Donation organised by Red Cross of Naga Hospital, Kohima. Overwhelming response by cadets volunteering to donate blood was only marred by minimum age limit of 18 years which many schools cadets could do nothing about.
The closing Ceremony of the camp was presided over by Col D A Patil, CO 164 Naga TA Battalion on Thursday evening.
L/Cpl Mahesh Mech of NPCS Chumukedima was adjudged ‘Best Cadet’ amongst boys whereas Cdt Muliya Kath of BHS Tseminyu was adjudged ‘Best Cadet’ amongst girls. Two of the recently inducted schools GHS Phek and St Stephen Dimapur were in the race for Overall Championship, where the latter finally won the coveted award.
