Acute shortage of science, math teacher in the state

SCERT director, Vipralhou Kesiezie said there was acute shortage of science and mathematics teachers in the state.
Inaugurating the science exhibition, he revealed that science and mathematics teacher in the state was less than 10 %, adding that it was a sad but serious matter. Further, he disclosed that several posts had already been sacrificed by appointing non-teaching science and mathematics teachers in place of science and mathematics teachers.
The director suggested that there was a need to formulate a concrete policy to fill up science and mathematics teachers posts in the state.
Altogether 6 districts with 85 participants from 27 schools with 41 models took part in the science seminar.
Avith-o and Deto Jhimo, both Class XII from G. Rio Higher Secondary School, Kohima won the first prize in the state level science exhibition, 2010 on the theme “Science and technology for challenges in life”.
The winners’ model was “Green Building” Imlibenla Jamir, Class IX from Model Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung bagged the second prize with model “Agriculture and Theology” while the third prize was won jointly by Arunanand V. Thomas,Class VII from St. Mary’s Cathedral school, Kohima with model “Global Warming effect and remedies and Aseno Terhuja and Dsiesetuonuo Linyii, both class X from Khedi High School Kohima with the model “Use of wind turbine” .
The consolation prizes were bagged by Fernwood School, Kohima, Government Higher Secondary School Phek, JNV Wokha, Mezhur Higher Secondary School Kohima.
In the closing function, V. Meyase, joint director school education distributed the prizes, while the function was chaired by Phutoli L Jamir, deputy director SE
Meanwhile, the 10 selected models will represent the state at the Eastern India Science Fair at Kolkatta from January 11 to 15, 2011.
The science exhibition was organized by department of school education.
