NE states to discuss electoral reforms

The 7th regional consultation on comprehensive electoral reforms, organised by the union ministry of law and justice, would be held at NEDFI House, opp. Gauhati Tea Auction centre, Dispur, Assam. An official communiqué released by the state election department Tuesday informed that day-long consultation would be attended by union minister for law and justice V.Moily and chief ministers of north eastern states, including Sikkim. CEC India Dr.S.Y.Quraishi would also be participating in the consultation, it stated. Other participants would include representatives of political parties of states, eminent citizens, journalists, NGOs along with CEOs of the states. Reform initiatives cover such concerns as criminalisation of politics, elections funding, conduct and management, regulation of political parties and their audit and finances and review of anti-defection law.
