Taking serious note of the “aggression” on Naga people by Manipur government May 6, the Naga Hoho, at its consultative meeting held Saturday, has put up a five-point declaration in support of Naga people’s historical rights to their ancestral lands.
Naga Hoho speaker H.K. Zhimomi and general secretary P. Chuba Ozukum, in a statement, said Hoho considered the action of Manipur government as an “open declaration of war against the Nagas.”
The Hoho affirmed that Nagas would stand as a people of one nation, regardless of any division on their land made through “colonial designs”. It also stated that any attack on Naga people would be considered as an attack on “the nation.” With regard to Naga citizens reportedly being held hostage in Imphal valley, the hoho cautioned that any harm inflicted to them would be countered by “befitting actions”.
It also resolved to derecognize any artificial boundary lines, drawn across Naga people’s ancestral lands in the present Manipur state.
Manipur declined escort
Manipur DGP had asked his Nagaland counterpart not to provide security escort to Imphal-bound trucks May 3 and as a consequence, six trucks were torched by miscreants that day. Revealing this Friday, state home minister Imkong L.Imchen said Manipur DGP had sent wireless message on May 1. State DGP K.Kire also said Nagaland provides security escorts to Manipur-bound trucks on Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays. Meanwhile, vehicles transporting Nagaland newspapers to Manipur were stopped at Mao Gate by Manipur Police. However, after much persuasion, the police officer finally agreed.
