As precautionary measures,security has been beefed up across Nagaland, following reports that the state is likely to be the next target after the October 1 Assam serial bomb blasts.
The Nagaland Home department has instructed police to be on high alert for any eventuality in any part of the state.
Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen convened a high-level meeting of all security-concerned departments and the security forces of the state and directed all the law enforcing agencies to remain on high alert against any possible attack by terrorist group. Police department also sounded high alert all along the Nagaland-Assam border to keep a strict vigil on the movement of all persons across the inter-state border, he added.
Official sources also disclosed that extra precautions were being undertaken for Dimapur where intelligence sources believe, was being used as safe haven by various militant outfits of neighboring states. On the reported movement of ULFA cadres in Mon district and Dimapur, the Home Minister said there were reports of such movements of not only ULFA, but also some ultras from Manipur. It was also disclosed that an operational command structure has been formed for Dimapur with SP and Addl.SP assigned with the task of heading the Dimapur operations. For the purpose of protocol duties, an officer in the rank of Addl.SP has been given the task instead of the SP Dimapur.
Besides increased frisking, the police has also beefed up its intelligence networks in Dimapur, the gateway of Nagaland. According to UNI, central Security agencies, meanwhile, also issued high alert on the report of establishment of an office by the ISI somewhere in Dimapur district and search operations are on to identify the terrorist centre, a top official of a security agency said.
