Garo community celebrated Wangala festival Friday with fun and fervor at Samaguri church compound, Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. The occasion was graced by All India Garo Association vice president Albert Marak, as chief guest.
In his message, Albert Marak urged Garo community to be united and not to cause division in the society. Highlighting the significance of the festival, ANGU convener April Sangma said “festival is basically a thanksgiving time after a good harvest and to remember ancestors”.
He said ‘festival must unite them and not divide them’ and urged Garos present at the festival not to forget ancestral custom and tradition. Earlier the function began invocation by pastor of Catholic Church W. Ch, Momin, special numbers from youth Samaguri, women society, and spectacular Wangala dance by village youth.
Others who spoke on the occasion included ANGU president Raphael Marak , Herendo Mark. Bro. Kalbingstone from good shepherd seminary pronounced the benediction.
