Essay contest on energy conservation

Nagaland State Designated Agency conducted a state level essay competition on Energy Conservation on Friday at Hotel Japfü. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Asangla Imti, under secretary, Department of Power, as the chief guest.
Out of the 46 student participants, Shisadenla from Jubilee Memorial School Mokokchung emerged as the winner of the essay competition, followed by W. Chubalemla Chang from Holy Angel School, Tuensang and Ingauringle from Government High School Peren in the second and third positions respectively. The other ten winners were Kethosenuo from North Field, Kohima; Kekhrievituo Miachieo from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Smaranika Chakraborty from St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Niholi from Assisi School, Dimapur; N. Tolivi Sumi from Vision Home Higher Secondary School, Diphupar; Temjennaro from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Nidhi Singh from Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung; Qhevika Swu from St. Mary’s Cathedral School, Kohima; Arenla Mar from Jubilee Memorial School Mokokchung; and Nilanjan Dey from Holy Cross School, Phek. All the participants were given certificates, while the winners were awarded cash prizes along with certificates.
The judges for the essay competition were Er. Khose Sale, SE, Power; Er. Tepul, SE, Housing; L. Sunep, lecturer; Moameren, lecturer; Kopelo Krome, journalist. Speaking on the importance of energy and its conservation, Asangla Imti said that emphasis should be given on conservation of energy in transport, domestic and industrial sector in Nagaland. With the state’s consumption of energy reaching to 400 million units covering 1.40 lakh households, she said that the lifestyle of the people had an impact on the global environment. She further stated that each person needed to be sensitized on the need to conserve energy stating “the state can grow wealthy by using less energy and keeping environment balanced and clean”.
The chief guest further asserted that conservation of energy was a global issue because of the limited amount of non renewable energy sources. “It is important to conserve our current supply and use renewable source so that our natural resources will be available for future generation”, she said.
The programme was chaired by K.T. Wabang Ao, chief electrical inspector, Nagaland State Designated Agency.
