352 arms licences revoked in Nagaland

The central government has revoked 352 arms licences issued by the licensing authorities of various districts of Nagaland from August 24, 1987 to January 9, 2007 as the licences were “without any authority of law.” According to a PIB statement, the revocation order was published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary on April 7, 2011. It has been informed that the individuals holding licences which cease to be lawful needed to deposit both the licences and the arms and ammunition corresponding to these licences within 15 days from the date of publication of the order, i.e., by April 21. The weapons are to be deposited with OC of the police station nearest to wherever they were residing at present. Further, it was informed that failure to deposit the arms and ammunition was liable to punishment with such imprisonment and the fine as stipulated under section 25 of the Arms Act 1959.
