DEO opens new GMS building

Newly constructed government middle school (GMS), Darogapathar village, Dimapur, through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme, was inaugurated Tuesday by District Education Officer (DEO), Dimapur Asono Ndang as chief guest.
The new school building comprises of six rooms including three class rooms, an office, staff room and computer room.

Funded by SSA, the school building was completed under the initiative of Darogapathar village education committee (VEC), even though it received only the first installment of SSA funding.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the DEO stressed on the importance of quality education, saying it could bring about all round development.

She underscored that teachers needed to be prepared and share with students, adding the society look up to teachers and expect much from them.

Pointing out that teachers in government-run schools were most qualified, the DEO said it would be a farce if they did not exhibit their knowledge in imparting quality education.

DEO Asono Ndang also appealed to the VEC and village community to extend encouragement to teachers.
District Inspector of School (DIS), Dimapur Khetoshe Yepthomi, who graced the function as guest of honour, remarked that with the coming up of new school building the teachers were expected to perform their duty regularly and sincerely. The DIS also urged the teachers to sacrifice their time and teach students with dedication.

Both DEO and DIS were appreciative of the efforts of VEC and village community, saying the fine school structure reflected the unity and coordination among the VEC and village community. They expressed their belief that construction of new school building would bring progress in education system as well.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by VEC chairman Khotso Kin while GMS head teacher Atoholi Sukhalu proposed the vote of thanks.

Village authorities commended the efforts of the government in providing funds and expressed hope such efforts would be extended in the future also for the uplift of the school. The school, established in the year 1967, currently has an enrollment of 500 students.
