Mystery continued to shroud the cause of smoke that was spouting intermittently from a mountain at Vishepu village, under Satakha sub-division, in Zunheboto district for the last three to four days.
When contacted to ascertain the occurrence of unusual geophysical activity, the deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, T. Kiheto Sema said he had deputed police and administration to the spot for verification.
The DC said after ascertaining the occurrence of the activity he had subsequently referred the matter to the directorate of geology and mining, requesting to send team of experts and conduct experiment.
According to DC, officials from geology & mining have already reached Vishepu village and were camping there to begin the research.
Kiheto said smoke was intermittently spouting from not just one place but from various locations. He also said that smokes were seen only at night and early morning.
DC said on September 12 smokes were seen at around 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. while on September 13 it was seen at around 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Initially, DC said some children from the village spotted the smoke and reported to village elders, who then thought could be clouds. However, after the activity continued to occur, the village elders reported the matter to DC.
DC said the exact cause would be known only after the geologists conduct study and experiment. It was reported that such activity occurred even in the past.
