Planning Commission of India (PCI) member B.K. Chaturvedi Saturday said Nagaland was in need of more private investments based on local resources to develop its economy.
Chaturvedi, accompanied by PCI senior advisor N. Brahmo Choudhury, told mediapersons Saturday evening after meeting with state policy makers and government officials at Hotel Japfü, Kohima.
He disclosed that various sectors such as industries, road development, power, rural development, health education etc. were reviewed at the meeting. Chaturvedi maintained that marketing development was needed for expansion particularly in agriculture and horticulture sectors.
On development of roads, the PCI member said there was urgent need for maintenance of state’s roads. Pointing out that adequate resources for roads were not being provided, he proposed on providing an additional Rs.33 crore to the state for road maintenance.
Assuring that PCI would take up the matter to the Centre, he requested the state government to also increase resources on its part. He assured that additional power and development of transmission line would be taken up by the commission.
On education sector, state recommended on development of schools for areas that were lacking secondary school level especially in Mon district, which was reported to have only one higher secondary school.
Chaturvedi also extended PCI’s support in expansion of health and nursing facilities in setting up of medical colleges. Earlier, PCI member, who visited Mon and held meeting with Civil societies and HoDs, informed that at Mon he had discussed a range of issues with civil society members and their developmental needs had been noted. PCI member said had assured to extend support in whatever way possible.
