To protest against the “force imposition” of “discarded” ADC Act., the Tangkhul coordination committee (TCC) has resolved to impose 24-hour bandh in Ukhrul District starting May 4 midnight to May 5 midnight. This was resolved at an emergency sitting of TCC April 30, and as per the directive of the President, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), said TCC convener Jonathan Kashung. The TCC accused “communal government of Manipur” of undermining the wishes and rights of the Naga people through force imposition of ADC Act time and again. “We strongly opposed the creation of executive director of DRDA, as it comes under the discarded ADC Act.,” the committee convenor said, and underlined that no developmental programmes would be allowed to implement under executive director, DRDA. The committee demanded that all developmental programmes be implemented only through deputy commissioner with immediate effect. Further, the TCC also demanded for immediate withdrawal of above ADC Act from the hill areas. “Ignoring the democratic voice of the peoples of Ukhrul district in particular, the communal government of Manipur shall bear all the unwanted eventualities,” the TCC cautioned, adding all democratic ways and means would be adopted to intensify the agitation till their legitimate demand was fulfilled. The 24-hour bandh would, however, exempt electricity department, PHED, telecom and medical department.
