In an emailed statement, NSWON said “audacity to commit such a heinous crime by refugees in the presence of her helpless husband and in our own soil clearly indicates the seriousness of the situation.”

Describing rape as “an alien culture” to Nagas, NSWON however, said the counting has never stopped with one incident after the other, “whether it is raping of three Naga girls on the Holy pulpit of Yankili Church by the Indian Army or death of Ms. Rose of Kumram village or hordes of others, or for that matter the regular raping and murders of Naga girls every few months in Indian metropolitan cities especially in the Capital Delhi, now it has come to our own home turf.”

In a joint statement, NMDA president Ato Yepthomi and general secretary Basu Damani said the association has issued “strong directive” to all its members to properly verify the authenticity of the person, especially foreign immigrants coming from neighboring state of Assam and seeking job in Nagaland.

NMDA said it has been resolved that any of its member who appoints any immigrant without verifying permanent residence certificate and proper address would be not only doing it at one’s own risk and responsibility but also be severely dealt under the amended constitution of the association.

Further, the condemning the crime of highest order, NMDA appealed to the Muslim council of Dimapur to put all efforts to apprehend the absconding culprit to wherever he had disappeared. Also, while advising all the communities residing in Dimapur to keep a watch on their community people with any kind of suspicious character, NMDA appealed to the NGOs and civil societies to not only condemn such crimes but also to verify from the courts of justice as to how many of the cases of all criminal activities by such people has been registered in the past.

“How many Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs) have been convicted? How many have been released on bail and why?” it asked.
The civil societies, the NMDA suggested should also put a strong directive to all the advocates and bar association and its members that they should not entertain any such cases for bailing out the criminals of this nature of crimes.
