A library cum conference hall was formally inaugurated in a simple but symbolic function held at Stella Higher Secondary School (SHSS), Kohima Friday.
The dedication of the library cum conference hall has assumed significance as it coincided with the commemoration of the school’s silver jubilee celebration.
Additional chief engineer PHE, Er. Kevisekho Krose who was the chief guest said with the opening of the library, the school would march higher and benefit the student’s achievements.
Stating that education was a serious component for human in various professions, Krose said various past national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharal Nehru, other great politicians, scientists, etc., were all serious about education.
“In fact, those politicians who were not serious about education were not “good politicians,” he pointed out.
Explaining the value of knowledge received from education, the chief guest mentioned that many students might be toppers at colleges, universities, IAS exams, etc., but if lack deep knowledge then they would not be able to carry the masses in right direction.
Mentioning about the present cyber age, Krose said though lot of information could be searched through interest, most of the time these records become momentary, whereas books could be kept for centuries and became treasures.
Krose also advised the school teachers and authorities to encourage student to develop reading habits so that they would fully benefit from facilities available at the library.
He also lauded the proprietors of the school for being able to provide many facilities to the school and hoped that in the year to come, more books would be added in the library.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Principal of the SHSS Kechangunuo said setting up a library in the school was a dream come true, more so on the day the school was celebrating its 25th anniversary.
“This library will remain for the welfare of the student communities of the SHSS.”
Administrator, proprietors, faculty members of the SHSS and senior students of the school were among others who attended the function which was chaired by PJ Nathan, head master, SHSS.
