
In tune with the launching of ‘Digital India’ on July 1 by the prime minister, Narendra Modi at New Delhi, Digital India week was observed by various departments across the state.
In Kohima, the event was observed at NIELIT Kohima on the theme, “Transforming India into a Digital Empowered Society” with home commissioner Neihu C. Thur IAS as the chief guest on Tuesday.
Underscoring the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in today’s world, Neihu said that ICT was growing rapidly and has influenced in shaping our living standards.
He said that there was high demand for professionals in ICT in commercial services sectors and ICT companies. To this he urged the students to take digital India recently launched by the Prime Minister of India as the platform.
According to Neihu, through ICT teachers would be able to create interactive classes and make lesson more lively, colourful and enjoyable which could improve participation and concentration of students.
While speaking on Digital literacy, the chief guest said that digital literacy was the knowledge, skill and behaviours used in a broad range of digital devices such as smart phones, tables, laptops and desktops PCs, all of which were seen as network rather than computing devices.
The Home Commissioner said that the basic idea of introducing Digital India was to infuse transparent and accountable government and citizen of the country to become aware of the activities of the government.
Delivering keynote address, Commissioner and Secretary (IT) K.DVizo, ITS said that India has an impression of world class in Information technology (IT) mainly due to the success of India’s software industry and contribution of people of Indian origin in Information technology revolution in the United States. Adding that despite being a world leader in IT, India remains a poor country both in terms of the per capita income and the human development index. He opined that under the Digital India programme, the Government ofVizo also felt that Nagaland would not reap the full benefits of IT unless it creates opportunities for the youth especially in rural areas to realize the benefits from the same. He appealed to the people to create the platform for the growth of IT in the State by taking full advantage of Digital India Programme.
The programme was chaired by Nukshinaro Pongen while by Er. Lanuwabang, Dy. Director I/C NIELIT Kohima delivered welcome address.
The programme was sponsored by M/s Pele Khezhie, Tata Sky, Kohima, Slogan competition sponsored by Anil Jain and family and Poster Competition by Decorative House. Slogan competitions were won by Marcus Kivito. S, Ghunavi Aye, Watienla and Watila. Skit completion was won by NIELIT boys hostel and girls hostel as first and second places respectively, MobaInnang from Dimapur and Amos Domeh, Kohima won the poster competition as first and second respectively.
Tuensang: To sensitize the notion about Digital India week to the Village Development Block volunteers, the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) conducted a meeting at CKS Hall Tuensang on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the BDOs, CAs, MIS workers, VDB and VDB secretaries under DRDA Tuensang.
The main speaker of the meeting was DIO Tuensang, AviKhehie where he emphasized on the importance of the Information Technology in the current world scenario. He shared about the efficiency of the internet and usage of technologies in official works and also encouraged the gathering to adapt to the information developments.
Project Director DRDA, Chubawati Chang welcomed all the dignitaries and the invitees and the officials. The programme was chaired by DPODRDA, Tuensang, Kikatemsu and the vote of thanks delivered by APCDRDA Tuensang, Aomendang.
DRDA Dimapur: Along with the rest of the country, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Dimapur has observed the Digital India Week in Seluophe village on Tuesday, under Dimapur district which is also known as Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana Village adopted by MP Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio.
On the occasion, Project Director, DRDA Asangla T Aier, gave a speech on the essence of Digital India Week which was launched by hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1 in New Delhi. She also declared that her department will give one computer and one digital camera to the village for efficient functioning of various village developmental works including SAGY. Deputy director DRDA, Pfukrulhou Koza chaired the meeting.
Soil conservation office Kma: Soil Conversation office Kohima also observed Digital India, the Kohima district soil conservation office had observed an awareness programme on Tuesday.
A press release issued by junior soil conservation officer Suiyiheile, stated that district officer K. Khekiho Shohe as speaker emphasized “on the importance of digitalising of governance” to do away with corruption and bring about transparency.
The key points of the speaker at the awareness programme organised for office staff emphasized on progress made in the field of IT due to internet revolution, with India aiming to connect more than 2,50,000 villages. Shohe also said that digital India would ease daily task of paying bills and stressed on catching up with the growing world.
Chuchuyimlang: Keeping in tune with the Government of India’s vision to transform India into a digital empowered society and knowledge economy, NIELIT extension centre, Chuchuyimlang organised the Digital India Week from July 1 to 7.
On the occasion, chief guest Natwar Thakkar emphasized on the need to be literate in digital knowledge, in order to be at par with others. He also gave a brief background on how the Computer Institute at Chuchuyimlang was set up in the year 2006.

Implementation of digital infrastructure, its importance and advantages were discussed at length during the observation week.
As part of its digital initiative, NIELIT Chuchuyimlang also officially launched two software applications.
The second day was graced by EAC Chuchu town, Thejakhrenuo as chief guest.
She launched the Online Library Management System which is being used for paperless Library Maintenance.
Founder Secretary, Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, NatwarThakkar also launched the Online e-Learning Management System, an online Application for accessing study materials, conduct examinations etc.
On day three, 17 participants from the Institute went to Mokokchung to participate in the e-Marathon organised by the Department of IT & Communication and assisted by the Deputy Commissioner Office.
Staffs along with some students visited Friendship High School, Chuchuyimlang and gave awareness on Digital India to their students and teachers on during the week-long observation function.
In conclusion of the Digital India Week, a quiz competition was held at NIELIT Chuchuyimlang Hall on the topic ICT Education. A total of 19 students from Govt. High School and Frienship High School, Chuchuyimlang participated in the quiz competition.
Purlemba and Lipokmendang from Govt Hugh School won the first place lace while Sentiaien and Sangyumongla from Friendship High School won the second place and the third place was bagged by Imesen and Olemnungla.
All participants were provided with certificates while the winners were presented with computer books.
