NPCC demands Imchen’s removal

Threatens to stage mass agitation if CM fails to act within a forthnight
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has warned that if medical minister Imkong L. Imchen was not removed within the next fortnight from the DAN ministry, it would be compelled to launch mass protest agitations, even to the extent of boycotting the 50th (golden jubilee) celebration of Nagaland statehood.

NPCC president S.I.Jamir disclosed that this was contained in the NPCC representation addressed to the state Governor and chief minister during a press briefing at Congress Bhavan here Wednesday.

S.I.Jamir also disclosed that the representation addressed to the Governor was handed over to the secretary since the former was out of station.

He also said the NPCC had sought appointment with the chief minister since Tuesday but was refused on the plea that he (chief minister) “was very busy”. Jamir claimed that the Governor was reported to have taken the matter “very seriously”.

In the representation to the Governor, NPCC maintained that Imkong L.Imchen has lost all moral authority to remain in office since he “is already a criminally tainted person.

NPCC therefore, sought the intervention of the Governor, as the constitutional head of the state, to prevail upon the chief minister to remove Imkong L.Imchen from the ministry without further delay and to let justice prevail.

Further, the NPCC also maintained that since there was enough prima facie evidence available against the minister, his continuance in the cabinet had become untenable, especially after police had filed a charge sheet against him.

The NPCC also accused the NPF government of sheltering the minister from prosecution for the past nine months and still remained non-committal on whether to ask him to resign or to sack him from the cabinet.

The opposition claimed that the delay tactics employed by the NPF government would certainly jeopardize the outcome of the entire trial and hearing process.

In a separate representation addressed to the chief minister, the NPCC categorically demanded the removal of Imkong L imchen from the council of ministers, since he was already been charge sheeted by the Wokha Police for criminal conduct during the recently concluded state assembly election.

It said Imchen was “caught red handed” with crores of rupees in unaccounted money, illegal weapons and liquor in his possession at Wokha.

NPCC also said there was enough prima facie evidence available against the minister and for which, his continuance in the cabinet has become untenable, till he was proved innocent in the court of law.

NPCC warned that failure to remove the charge-sheeted minister within the next fortnight would invite NPCC to undertake mass agitation on the streets to the extent of boycotting the 50th anniversary celebrations of statehood and vowed it would not tolerate a criminally tainted person masquerading as a leader to make a mockery of law and hold the state to ransom.

It maybe mentioned that  Imkong L. Imchen was charge sheeted by Wokha Police on November 4, 2013.

‘DAN govt. deficit to cross Rs. 1000 cr’
NPCC alleged that the NPF-led DAN government’s deficit will be to the tune of over thousand crores rupees by next financial year ending. Interacting with media persons at Congress Bhavan Wednesday NPCC president S.I Jamir reiterated that there was no doubt that the current deficit would be in that figure.

It may be mentioned that chief minister Neiphiu Rio had presented a deficit of Rs. 899.45 crore for the year 2013-2014 on July 18 during the budget session.

The NPCC chief Jamir also pointed out that “entertainments” have become a practice with the DAN government and which has caused much resentment among people.

He alleged that the chief minister wanted to escape after enjoying all the benefits received by the state.

Referring to NPF accusing Congress leaders of acting as ‘agents of outsiders’ , Jamir said the present government was enjoying the funds from the “outsiders”.

The NPCC chief termed it as “a very dangerous move on the part of the NPF Government” over the cabinet decision ‘not to sent files to state governor for approval’.

He said under Article 371 (A) the state Governor has special power on law and order related matter as long as there was law and order situation.

He opined that Nagas should not attempt to do anything that could violate article 371 (A) as it was a constitutional matter”. Jamir further asserted “ we want government of India to translate the article 371 (A) in action fully”.
