Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day observed in Mkg

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mokokchung observed Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day (GIDDP) on October 21 at CMO office Mokokchung.
On the occasion, deputy CMO and District Nodal Officer (DNO) NIDDCP Dr. Kibangkumba, who also chaired the programme encouraged the participants to be aware about the intake of iodized salt. 
He gave a short demonstration of salt testing and also suggested that ASHAs should visit places, shops and houses for testing the content of iodine by testing the salt with simple salt testing kid.
CMO Dr. S.S. Akaba Longchar, while highlighting the significance of the day explained that iodine salt was nothing but the common salt, where a small quantity of iodine compound was added and used as iodine deficiency prevention.
Longchar said it was important for human body to get quantity salt regularly every day. He also said that the average daily requirement for adult was 150 micro grams.
He further called upon the participants to be responsible in passing the message to the people in remote areas, to consume only iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorder.
The programme was attended by CMO, deputy CMO, medical officers, CMO staff and DPMU staff.
