State funeral for late Khekiho Zhimomi, sitting Rajya Sabha MP, who passed away in Delhi on November 26 was held in the Agri-Expo premises Saturday with thousands paying their last homage to the departed and a guard of honour given by 1 NAP Chumukedima.
In his condolence, chief minister T.R.Zeliang described late Khekiho as a true Naga, who was ever ready to help the poor and needy. He said Khekiho was blunt but compassionate. He narrated an incident when the pilot vehicle met with an accident and trapped one of the escort party underneath the vehicle. Without hesitation, he said late Khekiho rushed to help and asked him to join in and both managed to free the trapped person.
Zeliang also recalled, when late Khekiho went to his residential office and during conversation, he smiled in amusement. Zeliang thought late Khekiho was smiling at him and asked the reason. Late Khekiho replied that he was smiling on reading a quotation framed on the wall behind him. The quote read: “Hurt me with the truth, I don’t mind but never comfort me with a lie”.
Zeliang said late Khekiho told him that he loved the quote. “I think it is appropriately so as the quote suits him, the way he is” said Zeliang.
Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio also expressed grief and sadness at the sudden demise of his lone colleague.
Sharing the memories together in Parliament, Rio said late Khekiho was a born leader, committed person, typical Naga and an upright person who was not afraid to speak the truth.
G. Kaito Aye MLA and minister Y.Vikheho Swu spoke on behalf of Sumi legislators. Noke Wangnao MLA and former minister Thenucho Tunyi spoke on behalf of friends.
Himato Zhimomi, IFS and Y Kikheto Sema, IAS the president and secretary Sumi Officers Union Nagaland also paid rich tribute to late Khekiho. Among those who also spoke included-Piyeto Zhimomi GB Sheyipu village, Sumi Hoho president Toniho Yepthomi, Sumi Kukami Hoho president Ghovito Zhimomi, Western Sumi Hoho president Hokiye Yepthomi, Western Sumi Kukami Hoho president Isawoto Zhimomi and GB Chekiye village Itepu Zhimomi.
Khezheli wife of late Khekiho narrated the final moments with her late husband at AIIMS Delhi. She affirmed that along with her children they would follow the footsteps of her late husband who was an active social worker and politician.
Later, the body of late Khekiho Zhimomi was laid to rest at Ikishe Village, Dimapur Friday after the funeral service.
