Revoke decision to recognize Rongmeis: AKM

Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AMK), apex student body of the Ao community, has appealed to the chief minister to revoke the 2012 cabinet’s decision recognizing Rongmei tribe as an indigenous tribe of Nagaland at the earliest in the interest of the Nagas of Nagaland. In a letter to chief minister T.R. Zeliang, AKM president L. Jemti Longchar and general secretary Bendangkumba Aier pointed out that the July 23, 2012 cabinet’s decision has created a lot of confusion and animosity among various Naga tribes of Nagaland. While acknowledging the state government for setting up a ‘Cabinet Sub-Committee’ to look into/revisit the matter, AKM however said it was their undivided stand on the controversial issue that the state government revoke the decision at the earliest.
